PARIS BRICK

Research-Experimentation carried out for the company of Greater Paris
This experiment aims to develop a raw clay brick extruded from the earth of the Grand Paris Express yards. As part of its open innovation policy, after launching a public call for projects, the Société du Grand Paris proposed to the joint group Serge Joly & P. E. loiret, amàco, ECT and the Briqueterie d'Allonne / Dewulff, a partnership to launch the project.
In particular, the team must answer the following question: "Is a transformation of unpolluted earth cuttings into raw earth construction materials an industrializable and economically viable process?"

For the improvement of the recovery of cuttings, the advantages of these materials are multiple:
- Development of the local resource in local building materials
- Reduction in the carbon impact of the construction and transport of this natural resource, currently characterized as waste.
- Reduced need for storage areas for inert waste.
- Development of a new regional materials market.
- Acquisition of know-how in the transformation of inert waste.

The project is coordinated by Serge Joly & Paul Emmanuel Loiret. It brings together an industrialist specializing in the storage of inert cuttings, a research laboratory and a brick manufacturer to initially produce around 10,000 bricks of constant quality. These bricks will then be implemented on a prototype produced as part of the construction of the Hauts du moulins school group in Villepreux, of which Serge Joly & Paul Emmanuel Loiret are the mandatory architects.

The experiment is divided into 12 phases, grouped in 3 working groups:

Brick design and characterization
- Selection and analysis of raw materials
- Laboratory material testing
- Definition of a constant quality of raw material and implementation of a control
- Characterization of material performance

Mechanized production
- Equipment analysis and adaptation
- Extrusion tests on site, optimization and analysis of the materials produced
- Quality control of the materials produced
- Production of an industrial sample of materials
- Design of the construction system
- Brick design and construction system design
- Detailed technical description of the performance of materials and the construction system
- Creation of a prototype wall and architectural quality control

Its final objective, in addition to demonstrating the feasibility, or not, of a large-scale production of bricks, the production of technical specifications allowing the selection and reuse of these lands.
